Our Story
We’re Ernest and Anna, partners in life and in this business, and we’re two people who care a lot about what we eat.
We both come from farming families, although in slightly different ways. Ernest grew up in the UK on his family’s farm, first dairy and later arable. From a young age, he helped his dad out wherever he could, learning to drive tractors at ten and spending most of his childhood around crops, fields, and long days outdoors. Farming shaped how he thinks about food - where it comes from, how it’s grown, and why quality really matters.
Anna grew up in Ukraine, where buckwheat was a simple, everyday food. Her family has been involved in agriculture for many years, and buckwheat has always been part of their routine, grown, prepared, and roasted by her family. For Anna, buckwheat was never a trend or a “health food”; it was just nutritious, reliable, and always on the table.
When Anna moved to the UK, one thing quickly stood out. The kind of buckwheat she grew up eating, flavorful, satisfying, and carefully prepared, was incredibly hard to find. Even more surprising was how few people seemed to know what buckwheat actually was.
We’re both very active people. We love padel, swimming, the gym, hiking, and travelling whenever we can. We sought food that fit naturally into that lifestyle, something easy, sustaining, and genuinely enjoyable to eat. Buckwheat ticked every box, but in the UK, it was mostly sold raw.
So we decided to do something about it.
Today, our buckwheat is sourced from either Anna’s farm in Ukraine or other fantastic Ukrainian or European producers before being roasted and carefully bottled. Even the branding is personal, the image on our packaging comes from Ernest’s family farm (see if you can spot it at the bottom of the page). Every part of this product reflects where we come from and what we value.
We started E&A Premium Foods to introduce buckwheat to the UK. Simple, delicious, nourishing food that deserves a place on your plate.
Why E&A Roasted Buckwheat?
Buckwheat is a highly nutritious naturally gluten-free seed, grown from the flowering Fagopyrum plant and unrelated to wheat. It has been eaten for thousands of years and remains a staple across Eastern Europe and Asia.
What makes buckwheat unique is its balance. It provides slow-release carbohydrates, complete plant protein, and a dense mix of essential nutrients, including iron, magnesium, zinc, vitamins B1 and B3, and all nine essential amino acids.
Roasting is what transforms it. Roasted buckwheat has a deeper, nuttier flavour and a more satisfying texture, making it easier to cook with and far more enjoyable to eat. It works just as well in sweet or savoury dishes, is ideal for meal prep, and fits naturally into busy, active lifestyles.
Simple, wholesome, and genuinely delicious.
